On September 20 2008, over 1,000 people will participate in a Walk Now For Autism’s Community Resource Fair. At Autism Speaks, we believe the final chapter in the lives of children with autism is yet to be written. We are a non-profit organization of parents, clinicians, and scientists dedicated to finding effective biological treatments, prevention, and a cure for autism and related disorders. In addition to a primary focus of accelerating and funding critical biomedical research, Autism Speaks is also committed to broadening awareness and understanding of a disorder that has been virtually ignored for over forty years. Autism is a neurological disorder and contrary to popular belief, it is not rare. One in every 150 children is diagnosed with autism. Autism is a national crisis affecting over 1,000,000 Americans and costing the nation over $90 billion a year. Autism is more prevalent than Type 1 Diabetes, Childhood Cancer and Cystic Fibrosis, yet receives less funding than each of these disorders. You can make a difference! An integral part of Walk Now for Autism is the Community Resource Fair. Autism Speaks would like to invite you to participate in Terre Haute’s annual Walk Now For Autism as a Resource Fair Participant. Your organization will have an unparalleled opportunity to promote the scope of your services to an impacted audience while also supporting your community, networking with other service providers, and ultimately helping to find a cure for autism. Please consider this exciting possibility and fax or email the attached Autism Community Resource Fair Registration Form to 812-232-1731 or chaskett@casyonline.org. Once your form is received, we will send you confirmation and event details. In addition to the Resource Fair, we encourage your organization to form a walk team and/or volunteer on the day of the walk. To register for Walk Now for Autism please visit www.walknowforautism.org. We also invite you to help promote this event by distributing brochures, displaying posters and brochures in your office, or mentioning the walk in your publications and/or website. Please feel free to contact Keith Graunke at the Autism Speaks offices at 312-515-1452 if you have any further questions. Thank you in advance. We look forward to seeing you on September 20 2008.
